GATE Exam Pattern 2022

The duration of the GATE exam is 3 hours, and the number of papers for the GATE exams is 29. Sections of the GATE exam paper also include General Aptitude (GA) and the candidate’s selected subject. The Question paper also has Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) and the rest as Multiple Select Questions and/or Numerical Answer Types (NAT) Questions.

Number of Questions in the paper also include 10 (GA) + 55 (Subject) = 65 Questions.

Meanwhile, the distribution of Marks in all Papers except AR, CY, EY, GG, MA, PH, XH and XL is given as General Aptitude (15 Marks) + Engineering Mathematics (13 Marks) + Subject Questions (72 Marks). Also, the distribution of Marks in papers CY, EY, GG, MA, PH, XH and XL are General Aptitude (15 Marks) + Subject Questions (85 Marks). All questions asked are of 1 or 2 marks.

Additionally, for AR, The Paper contains General Aptitude (GA) section (15 Marks) as applicable for all papers of GATE 2022. The Paper consists of two parts covering the syllabus: Part A (60 marks) and Part B (25 marks). Part A is compulsory for all the candidates. Part B contains two optional sections: Part B1 (Architecture) and Part B2 (Planning).

Frequently Asked Questions on GATE 2022 Previous Year Question Paper

If a paper is being held in more than one session, Is it possible for me to appear in any of the sessions of that particular paper?

It is not allowed. Each candidate will be assigned to only one of the multiple sessions of a particular paper, which is being held in multiple sessions. Under any circumstances, a candidate will not be allowed to appear in a session in which his/her candidature is not assigned.
